History of Lake, and the Lake General Store

1873 - A man named Scott Garrish starts a lumber camp at Crooked Lake.
1877 - The Crooked Lake lumber camp is officially known as Lake Station, as the Pere Marquette Railroad stops at the depot across from Crooked Lake, the train was used for logging operations only. Lake Station also erects a Post Office on February 26th. It's only purpose is to serve the lumber camps, as no permanent residents were living in the area yet.
1904 - Thomas Maltby builds the Lake General Store. He also draws up the first plat map of Lake.
Thomas Maltby also names Terry street.
1909 - Lake Station's name is shortened to Lake. Although many locals still refer to the area as Lake Station.
1969 - Earl and Lucy "Susie" Stickley take ownership of the Lake General Store.
1973 - Leo and Winnie Guzowski take ownership of the Lake General Store.
1983 - John and Carol Guzowski take ownership of the Lake General Store. It is now 2nd Generation owned.
2004 - The Lake General Store turns 100 Years old.
2009 - John and Carol Guzowski renovate the store front to mimic the classic look of the 1904 General Store.
2018 - With the help of grants and donations, a trailhead with access to the Pere Marquette Rail-Trail is built across the street from the Lake General Store. It features a large pavilion with parking lot, a bicycle repair station, and more.
Today - Although the times are always changing, you can be sure you will recieve the same old fashioned service, with a smile, at the Lake General Store.
